Fraudsters have devised a simple but effective scenario: they create the appearance of a legitimate company importing cars from the US—a website, social media pages, and fictitious contracts for "information and consulting" services. In the first stage, they attract victims with advertisements for "lucrative auctions" and promises of full transaction support. Then they ask for a deposit and say that to finish the deal, the money needs to be transferred to a "partner" company in another country, usually the US. After the transfer, they start ignoring the customer, coming up with extra payments and unexpected costs. The customer's car is held hostage by the scammers, and the person is forced to pay all the additional bills.
